SUMMARY:Emerging Perspectives\, Works by Artists 18-30
DESCRIPTION:‘Emerging Perspectives’ is a juried exhibition illuminating the vital and evolving voices of the region’s next generation of artists. This showcase serves as a bridge between the storied traditions of America’s oldest continuously operating art colony and the imaginative inquiries of creators aged 18 to 30. \nSelected by the RNAC Exhibitions Committee\, the exhibition presents a focused collection of work that captures a moment of professional becoming. Spanning a wide range of media\, the collection reflects a deep commitment to personal exploration and the pursuit of a distinct visual language. By facilitating a dialogue between these rising artists and the established creative lineage of Gloucester\, the Rocky Neck Art Colony continues its 150-year legacy of fostering the future of the arts. \n‘Emerging Perspectives’ is an invitation to witness the initial professional steps of those who will shape our cultural landscape. It offers a rare glimpse into the burgeoning careers of artists as they transition their practice into the public sphere. We invite the community to observe this growth and support the creative spirit that defines our region. \nThe public is invited to celebrate these new perspectives at the Opening Reception on Sunday\, April 12\, 2026\, from 4-6:00pm. Join Rocky Neck Art Colony and the artists to experience the collection\, meet the artists\, and enjoy an afternoon of refreshments and lively conversation. \nGallery Hours: Friday – Sunday\, 12-5pm \nArtwork by: (clockwise) Ben Laird\, Blocks; Ethan LeJeune\, Standing Stones; Rory Kenney\, Be There; Tia Camire\, Prey

SUMMARY:Newburyport Art presents the 2026 OpArt Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents the 2026 OpArt Exhibit\, on view from April 1st through April 25th. This exhibit features over 90 art pieces by artists from Opportunity Works\, as well as a series of portraits of the OpArt artists created by John Douglass. \nThe OpArt program founded in 2004 is a partnership between the Newburyport Art Association and Opportunity Works with a mission to encourage and support individuals with disabilities to fulfill their life ambitions through the creative process. OpArt is dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to enrich their lives through visionary expression and artistic practice by providing instruction in a variety of mediums and techniques. Artists are encouraged to work freely and experiment across different media (paint pastels\, collage\, drawing\, sculpture\, etc.) to produce artwork centered on a theme or their imagination. \nOn view alongside this exhibit are 36 portraits of OpArt artists created by John Douglass.\nJohn became an OpArt volunteer after meeting several artists during the 2025 OpArt Show at Newburyport Art. John writes that “At first I thought I’d paint just a few portraits\, for practice. At a class\, I showed one student his portrait\, and the idea of including it in this show came up. The student was so excited about that possibility-I knew then I needed to paint them all.” In the end\, John painted 36 portraits (and one opossum) over a five-month period-getting more practice than he intended. The OpArt team of volunteers hopes visitors enjoy the artwork and John’s portraits\, and recognize as we do\, the joy these gifted artists bring to our community. \nAn Artist Reception & Celebration will be held on Thursday\, April 9th from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The reception is free and open to the public\, with light refreshments being served. \nNEW Gallery Hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00am–5:00pm. The NAA is handicap accessible. More information\, and an online gallery is available at newburyportart.org.

SUMMARY:A Bronx Tale Live (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:Bronx-born and raised Chazz Palminteri wrote A Bronx Tale in 1988. The powerful one-man stage play depicted his bruising childhood which included witnessing a gangland killing when he was nine years old. Palminteri played 18 characters and brought them all to life in his autobiographical play. His friends\, enemies and family came alive on stage. Hollywood Studios went crazy after seeing it and offered him millions of dollars to turn it into a major movie. There was one catch… They wanted to put a star in the role of Sonny and someone else to write the screenplay. With $200 dollars in the bank…Palminteri said No… he would hold out and wait. He wanted to play Sonny and write the screenplay. Then one night Palminteri walked into his dressing room and sitting there was Robert De Niro who just saw the show.  Robert DeNiro gave Palminteri the chance he was waiting for… And as they say in Hollywood the rest is history.
