DESCRIPTION:Hammond Castle Museum welcomes guests to tour the many rooms of the home and laboratory of John Hays Hammond Jr.\, renowned as one of the most prolific American inventors of the 20th century and famously known as the Father of Radio Control. \nThroughout the 2026 season guests can also enjoy a completely updated Invention Room\, showcasing exciting new perspectives on Hammond’s work as a scientist\, inventor and engineer\, as well as a brand-new set of rotating exhibits\, including “Inside the Faraday Cage: The Science of Things that Aren’t So” in the spring and summer and “Brave Too Much: The Legend of John Coffee Hays” in the fall and winter. We offer two options for daily admission: Guided and Self-Guided tours. \nGuided Tours:\nLed by a member of Hammond Castle Museum’s talented tours staff\, Guided Tours of the Museum last approximately 35-40 minutes and cover basic information about the history of the building and its inhabitants. Major areas covered by the tour staff include parts of the former Laboratory\, the vast Great Hall\, and the breathtaking Courtyard. \nAfter the guided portion of the tour\, visitors may explore the many smaller rooms and exhibit spaces in the former Hammond residence. \nSelf-Guided Tours:\nExperience Hammond Castle Museum at your own pace with our flexible arrival times for Self-Guided Tours! DESCRIPTION:Join us every Wednesday morning in July & August for Bubbles and Books on our seaside lawn! \nBubbles and Books is so much more than just storytime. It’s a seaside bubble party featuring stories\, music\, crafts\, a light snack & even an outdoor scavenger hunt. \nDoors open at 10:00 am\, with bubbles and a craft\, then the story & snacks begin about 10:20 am. We recommend you bring a cozy blanket for your little one to cuddle on while we enjoy the storybooks on the lawn. After storytime\, enjoy more bubbles and end the morning with a kid-friendly scavenger hunt in front of the Museum. \nDon’t forget sunscreen\, and we encourage little ones to come dressed in their favorite crown\, cape\, or whatever makes them feel magical! \nTickets for this event are $10 for ages 8 to adults\, and kids ages 7 and under are only $5. Hammond Castle Museum Member savings apply. \nWe recommend that you arrive 15 minutes early to allow enough time for the walk from the parking lot down to the Museum\, then for the check-in process and the walk to the lawn. There are many stairs throughout the campus and inside the Museum. Strollers are not allowed in the Museum or on the Museum Grounds\, and oversized baby carriers are not permitted in the Museum due to the many narrow passageways. \nThis ticket grants you access to the Bubbles & Books program\, which will be held on the ocean-facing lawn. If you wish to tour the Museum after this program\, ticket holders may purchase Self-Guided Tour tickets in the Museum Shop at a 20% discount. Little ones 4 and under enjoy FREE admission to guided and self-guided tours! \nRain or Shine. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. SUMMARY:Newburyport Art presents May Exhibitions at 65 Water Street
DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents three new shows opening in the month of May! \nSoft Structures is a group exhibition that explores fibers and fibrous material as process and metaphor. This exhibit features over 80 artworks in a variety of media including drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, weaving\, embroidery\, quilting\, collage\, mixed media and more.\nThis exhibit is on view in the first-floor Sargent Gallery and second-floor Hartson Gallery. \nFOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance\, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday\, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm\, concluding with Q&A. \nThe 11th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Garden Exhibition debuted on May 1st\, and will remain on view year-round until April 2027. At nearly 3\,000 square feet\, the Range Lights Sculpture Garden resides behind the historic NAA and is seen and visited by hundreds of people every week. This year’s exhibition features 16 pieces by 10 local and regional artists. The participating artists include; Jeffrey Briggs\, Lindley Briggs\, Sarah Burns and Mike Platt\, Alexis Guieb-Alimbuyuguen\, Andrew Henschel\, Mae Kenny\, Evan Ralph\, Michael Updike and Raynor Warner. \nA reception for FOLIA and Soft Structures will be held on Saturday\, May 2nd from 4-6pm\, with the 11th Annual Sculpture Exhibit reception beginning at 3:00pm\, including a Best in Show award at 3:30pm. The receptions are free and open to the public\, and visitors participating in the May 2nd Newburyport Artwalk are encouraged to stop by. \nNew Hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00am–5:00pm. The gallery is handicap accessible. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is proud to announce Coming Home: A Celebration of Creative Roots\, a multi-disciplinary exhibit that highlights artists who grew up in the Newburyport area\, and artists who moved to the area as adults – to share how the city influenced their creative practice. This is the second year that Newburyport Art has held this exhibit. Coming Home is curated by Artist and Executive Director\, Belle Carver Struck. \nThis exhibit features over 80 works by artists who have a connection to the Newburyport area. Artwork includes oil painting\, acrylic\, pastel\, watercolor\, mixed media\, collage and pastel. Coming Home will be on view from Wednesday\, August 22nd – Saturday\, August 22nd\, with a free\, opening reception on Sunday\, July 26th from 4-6pm.\nAdditionally\, Newburyport Art will hold a ticketed panel discussion on Monday\, July 27th from 6-8pm\, moderated by local storyteller\, actor and educator Paul Wann. The panelists are AJ Smith\, Ariele Ebacher\, Dylan Metrano\, Julie Pike Edmond\, and Isabella Schwind. Tickets are available now\, $45 for Newburyport Art Members\, and $60 for non-members. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents three new shows opening in the month of May! \nSoft Structures is a group exhibition that explores fibers and fibrous material as process and metaphor. This exhibit features over 80 artworks in a variety of media including drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, weaving\, embroidery\, quilting\, collage\, mixed media and more.\nThis exhibit is on view in the first-floor Sargent Gallery and second-floor Hartson Gallery. \nFOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance\, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday\, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm\, concluding with Q&A. \nThe 11th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Garden Exhibition debuted on May 1st\, and will remain on view year-round until April 2027. At nearly 3\,000 square feet\, the Range Lights Sculpture Garden resides behind the historic NAA and is seen and visited by hundreds of people every week. This year’s exhibition features 16 pieces by 10 local and regional artists. The participating artists include; Jeffrey Briggs\, Lindley Briggs\, Sarah Burns and Mike Platt\, Alexis Guieb-Alimbuyuguen\, Andrew Henschel\, Mae Kenny\, Evan Ralph\, Michael Updike and Raynor Warner. \nA reception for FOLIA and Soft Structures will be held on Saturday\, May 2nd from 4-6pm\, with the 11th Annual Sculpture Exhibit reception beginning at 3:00pm\, including a Best in Show award at 3:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is proud to announce Coming Home: A Celebration of Creative Roots\, a multi-disciplinary exhibit that highlights artists who grew up in the Newburyport area\, and artists who moved to the area as adults – to share how the city influenced their creative practice. This is the second year that Newburyport Art has held this exhibit. Coming Home is curated by Artist and Executive Director\, Belle Carver Struck. \nThis exhibit features over 80 works by artists who have a connection to the Newburyport area. Artwork includes oil painting\, acrylic\, pastel\, watercolor\, mixed media\, collage and pastel. Coming Home will be on view from Wednesday\, August 22nd – Saturday\, August 22nd\, with a free\, opening reception on Sunday\, July 26th from 4-6pm.\nAdditionally\, Newburyport Art will hold a ticketed panel discussion on Monday\, July 27th from 6-8pm\, moderated by local storyteller\, actor and educator Paul Wann. DESCRIPTION:Step inside a 200-year-old Chinese home in Salem to experience Chinese art\, architecture and culture. \nFor 200 years\, Yin Yu Tang stood in the rural village of Huang Cun in a mountainous region of southeastern China. Home to eight generations of the Huang family\, this house was dismantled\, transported and re-erected at the Peabody Essex Museum in 2003 through a partnership between PEM and the governmental authorities of Huizhou\, in Anhui Province. Yin Yu Tang’s journey constitutes a landmark collaboration between Chinese and American architects\, artisans\, conservators\, engineers and museum experts. The home is presented as it was when the family last lived there in 1982. \nPlan Your Visit\nExercise care\nPlease help us preserve the house for future generations by refraining from touching objects and the structure itself. Non-flash photography and videography is permitted for personal use only. Tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed. Please walk with care and watch out for uneven stonework and raised thresholds. \nStore your belongings\, but keep your coat\nYin Yu Tang is partially outdoors and may be cool in fall and winter. Strollers\, bags\, backpacks and umbrellas are not permitted in the house. Please leave them at the coatroom or the cubbies by the Information desk. Our staff at the entrance of the house can look after strollers. \nPick up your audio guide in advance\nPlease pick up your complimentary audio guide\, available in English and Mandarin\, at the Information desk 10 minutes before your visit. Winding through more dark secrets from the city’s past\, it finishes by following the steps of a notorious murderer into the Gardner-Pingree House. The killing of Joseph White gripped Salem and the country in 1830 with its brawling brothers\, custom-built murder weapons\, conspiring family members and a body that was autopsied three times. Follow PEM’s expert guides into the room where it happened – then head into the museum to visit our exhibition Salem Stories and see the real club used by White’s killers. \nThis is an indoor/outdoor tour.
