SUMMARY:“Cambodian Spirit” – Free Concert
DESCRIPTION:Cambodian artists and cultural organizations with deep roots in Lowell and Cambodia will join musicians from Ipswich-based The Orchestra on the Hill for The Cambodian Spirit\, a free public performance at Lowell High School on Sunday\, October 11. \nThe multidisciplinary collaboration brings together Angkor Dance Troupe (ADT) and Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell (CMAA) with Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) of Phnom Penh and The Orchestra on the Hill. Through Khmer classical dance and music\, storytelling\, and original orchestral compositions\, the program explores Cambodia’s traditional Creation Story and celebrates the vitality\, resilience and continuing evolution of Cambodian arts and culture. \nInternationally recognized humanitarian and musician Arn Chorn-Pond\, a survivor of the Khmer Rouge genocide and founder of Cambodian Living Arts\, will provide poetic accompaniment. His work has helped preserve and revitalize Cambodian performing arts while advancing their transmission to new generations. \nThe Lowell performance comes during an especially active year for the city and its Cambodian cultural community. Angkor Dance Troupe is celebrating its 40th anniversary season in 2026\, four decades after Cambodian refugees founded the Lowell organization to preserve and pass on Khmer dance\, music and cultural traditions. The performance also takes place during Lowell’s Bicentennial year\, as organizations and residents throughout the city reflect on the communities and histories that have shaped Lowell. \nThe Cambodian Spirit is an independent collaborative project and is not presented as an official program of either anniversary observance. \nWHEN\nSunday\, October 11\, 2026\n2:30 PM — Preconcert Talk\n3:00 PM — Performance \nWHERE\nLowell High School Auditorium\n50 Father Morissette Boulevard\nLowell\, Massachusetts \nADMISSION\nFREE and open to the public. \nAdvance registration is required through Eventbrite.
