DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents three new shows opening in the month of May! \nSoft Structures is a group exhibition that explores fibers and fibrous material as process and metaphor. This exhibit features over 80 artworks in a variety of media including drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, weaving\, embroidery\, quilting\, collage\, mixed media and more.\nThis exhibit is on view in the first-floor Sargent Gallery and second-floor Hartson Gallery. \nFOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance\, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday\, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm\, concluding with Q&A. \nThe 11th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Garden Exhibition debuted on May 1st\, and will remain on view year-round until April 2027. At nearly 3\,000 square feet\, the Range Lights Sculpture Garden resides behind the historic NAA and is seen and visited by hundreds of people every week. This year’s exhibition features 16 pieces by 10 local and regional artists. There is a free opening reception and awards presentation on Saturday\, October 10 (4-6 PM)! \nThe Fall Juried Show from October 10th – 31st is an annual artist members’ exhibition that brings artists from around the region. Over 100 art pieces were selected from nearly 200 entries and are on display on both floors of the gallery. Accepted media include watercolor\, oils and acrylic\, gouache\, sculpture\, printmaking\, photography\, pastel\, mixed media and more. This year’s theme is ‘Making Moves\,’ which invites artists to explore the forces behind their creative practice.\nJuror Sarah LoVasco has a degree in Studio Art from the University of Vermont and over twelve years’ experience in the retail hardware business. Working with nationally renowned museums\, galleries\, and corporate collections keeps Sarah up-to-date on industry best practices and allows her a pipeline of resources for artwork and emerging artists.\nThe NAA provides a gathering place for artists interested in meeting with other artists working in particular mediums\, by providing Featured Interest Groups (FIGs). AAGNE (Abstract Artists of New England) was founded with a dual mission: to support\, encourage\, and promote abstract and non-traditional artists; and to educate the public about their work. This year’s theme is ‘Making Moves\,’ which invites artists to explore the forces behind their creative practice.\nJuror Sarah LoVasco has a degree in Studio Art from the University of Vermont and over twelve years’ experience in the retail hardware business. Working with nationally renowned museums\, galleries\, and corporate collections keeps Sarah up-to-date on industry best practices and allows her a pipeline of resources for artwork and emerging artists.\nThe NAA provides a gathering place for artists interested in meeting with other artists working in particular mediums\, by providing Featured Interest Groups (FIGs). AAGNE (Abstract Artists of New England) was founded with a dual mission: to support\, encourage\, and promote abstract and non-traditional artists; and to educate the public about their work. The artists of AAGNE work in a variety of media\, approaches\, and styles. They are brought together by a common interest: a fascination and passion for the abstract elements in all art\, for Abstract art\, and art of abstraction.
