DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is pleased to announce Chasing the Light: an exhibit by The Newburyport Ten & Band of Brushes\, on view from Thursday\, July 30 – Saturday\, August 22\, 2026. These two groups exhibit annually in the Hills Gallery as part of the art gallery’s Featured Interest Groups. \nThe Newburyport Ten and Band of Brushes paint en plein air (a French expression meaning painting outdoors)\, sharing a love of nature and paint in oil\, watercolor\, pastel and acrylic. They meet outdoors once a week to work in their variety of mediums\, to support each other and discuss critiques. Their work displays the energy found within themselves and their surroundings. \nThis show features framed\, unframed\, and binwork art pieces by Dorothy Aham\, Michele Champion\, Grace Daly\, Karen S Fitzgerald\, Mary Francis\, Dale Partis Greene\, Margery Jennings\, Christine Molitor Johnson\, Fran Kaplan\, Marjet Lesk\, Kris Monroe\, Mary Parks\, Susan Spellman\, Mary Ann Varoski and Mary Carolyn Webber. \nAn opening reception will be held on Saturday\, August 1st\, from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The reception is free and open to the public\, and with light refreshments being served. \nAlso on view is the Coming Home Exhibition and Summer Gift Shop. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is excited to announce Fleeting Moments: Spontaneous Photography by Featured Artist Geordie Vining. \nGeordie Vining has worked as the Senior Project Manager for the Newburyport Planning Office for 25 years. Among many projects\, Geordie managed the creation of the Clipper City Rail Trail from concept to completion. He also managed design and construction of the Senior Community Center\, the John F. Cutter Jr. Fire Station\, and the Harbormaster Visiting Boater Facility\, as well as co-founded the award-winning Newburyport Black History Initiative. \nOutside of his work for the Newburyport Planning Office\, Geordie is a photographer who focuses on capturing a range of unplanned photographs of unique “fleeting moments.” Vining writes\, “Such pictures can speak to the human condition\, tell a story\, and hold on to a glimpse of fleeting beauty.” His photographs are nearly all spontaneous and unplanned\, ranging from close-ups to wide shots\, and from vibrant colors to classic black-and-white. The images are of people; townscapes and cityscapes; landscapes; the natural world; and abstract or ambiguous scenes. Many of the pictures are of his home in New England\, but also from other parts of the United States\, as well as countries like Norway\, Portugal\, Canada\, France\, England\, Italy\, Croatia\, Japan\, and a growing list of others. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents three new shows opening in the month of May! \nSoft Structures is a group exhibition that explores fibers and fibrous material as process and metaphor. This exhibit features over 80 artworks in a variety of media including drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, weaving\, embroidery\, quilting\, collage\, mixed media and more.\nThis exhibit is on view in the first-floor Sargent Gallery and second-floor Hartson Gallery. \nFOLIA is a collaborative exhibition featuring works by Amesbury artists Amy Vander Els & Heather Karp. This exhibit explores the quiet beauty and joyful rhythm of leaves and the symbolic meaning behind many that speaks of perseverance\, resilience and hope. Thirty-six artworks are displayed amongst spring greenery in the first-floor Hills Gallery. Amy and Heather will give a free artist talk on Thursday\, May 21st from 6:00-7:00pm\, concluding with Q&A. \nThe 11th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Garden Exhibition debuted on May 1st\, and will remain on view year-round until April 2027. At nearly 3\,000 square feet\, the Range Lights Sculpture Garden resides behind the historic NAA and is seen and visited by hundreds of people every week. This year’s exhibition features 16 pieces by 10 local and regional artists. Among many projects\, Geordie managed the creation of the Clipper City Rail Trail from concept to completion. He also managed design and construction of the Senior Community Center\, the John F. Cutter Jr. Fire Station\, and the Harbormaster Visiting Boater Facility\, as well as co-founded the award-winning Newburyport Black History Initiative. \nOutside of his work for the Newburyport Planning Office\, Geordie is a photographer who focuses on capturing a range of unplanned photographs of unique “fleeting moments.” Vining writes\, “Such pictures can speak to the human condition\, tell a story\, and hold on to a glimpse of fleeting beauty.” His photographs are nearly all spontaneous and unplanned\, ranging from close-ups to wide shots\, and from vibrant colors to classic black-and-white. The images are of people; townscapes and cityscapes; landscapes; the natural world; and abstract or ambiguous scenes. Cutter Jr. Fire Station\, and the Harbormaster Visiting Boater Facility\, as well as co-founded the award-winning Newburyport Black History Initiative. \nOutside of his work for the Newburyport Planning Office\, Geordie is a photographer who focuses on capturing a range of unplanned photographs of unique “fleeting moments.” Vining writes\, “Such pictures can speak to the human condition\, tell a story\, and hold on to a glimpse of fleeting beauty.” His photographs are nearly all spontaneous and unplanned\, ranging from close-ups to wide shots\, and from vibrant colors to classic black-and-white. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is excited to announce Fleeting Moments: Spontaneous Photography by Featured Artist Geordie Vining. \nGeordie Vining has worked as the Senior Project Manager for the Newburyport Planning Office for 25 years. Among many projects\, Geordie managed the creation of the Clipper City Rail Trail from concept to completion. He also managed design and construction of the Senior Community Center\, the John F. Cutter Jr. Fire Station\, and the Harbormaster Visiting Boater Facility\, as well as co-founded the award-winning Newburyport Black History Initiative. \nOutside of his work for the Newburyport Planning Office\, Geordie is a photographer who focuses on capturing a range of unplanned photographs of unique “fleeting moments.” Vining writes\, “Such pictures can speak to the human condition\, tell a story\, and hold on to a glimpse of fleeting beauty.” His photographs are nearly all spontaneous and unplanned\, ranging from close-ups to wide shots\, and from vibrant colors to classic black-and-white. The images are of people; townscapes and cityscapes; landscapes; the natural world; and abstract or ambiguous scenes. Many of the pictures are of his home in New England\, but also from other parts of the United States\, as well as countries like Norway\, Portugal\, Canada\, France\, England\, Italy\, Croatia\, Japan\, and a growing list of others. Fleeting moments transform into art. \nJoin us for a free opening reception on Wednesday\, September 2\, 5:00pm-7:00pm. Fleeting Moments: Spontaneous Photography is partially supported by the Newburyport Cultural Council\, West Newbury Cultural Council\, and Mass Cultural Council. \nThe galleries are free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00am–5:00pm.
