SUMMARY:The Steel Wheels (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:20 years is a long time to spend doing anything at all. It’s an age for any group of people to sustain a collective effort. For a band on the road\, 20 years can be more than a lifetime. Yet\, after 2 decades of making music together in living rooms\, listening rooms\, clubs\, theaters\, and festival stages\, The Steel Wheels are still growing\, still pushing\, still at it\, and they’re marking the occasion with the release of their 9th studio album\, “The Steel Wheels”. \nFollowing the release of “Sideways” in 2024\, their 3rd record with producer Sam Kassirer at his Great North Sound Society studio in interior Maine\, the band felt it was time for a change of scene. As the group began to select songs for a new album\, they also had to find an answer to the question of where they would get down to the work of record-making. They didn’t know that answer was going to knock on their back door. \n

SUMMARY:Spire Lobby Series: Robinson Treacher (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:This series showcases local and regional musicians in a relaxed and intimate setting. The lobby is transformed into a 70-seat showcase lounge! \nIf entertainment can be defined as an agreeable occupation of the mind\, then Robinson Treacher has found a way to encompass this in every aspect of his contribution to music-kind. Whether playing the role as front man to the soul-rock infused Delaware Hudson\, as co-collaborator to the Alt-Country based Tensleep\, or as a solo singer/songwriter\, Treacher seems to drain himself of energy in the ceaseless pursuit of portraying moments of musical passion. This passion is evident in every attempt he makes to involve us\, the listeners\, in the spiritual orchestrations of emotion that have been meticulously tempered into songs. \nPresented by The Antonia and Vladimir Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund.

SUMMARY:Shemekia Copeland at The Spire Center (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:Shemekia Copeland possesses one of the most instantly recognizable and deeply soulful roots music voices of our time. The multi-GRAMMY nominee is beloved and honored worldwide for the fearlessness\, honesty and humor of her revelatory songs\, as well as for her winning\, engaging personality. The Chicago Tribune says\, “Copeland is the greatest female blues vocalist working today. There’s no mistaking the majesty of her instrument\, nor the ferocity of her delivery.” \nOn Copeland’s new album\, Blame It On Eve\, the songs all hit hard\, with jaw-dropping performances that instantly take hold and command repeated listening. “There’s serious business on the new album\,” Copeland says\, “but there are a lot of smiles here too\, a lot of joyous moments. It’s my blues for sure but it’s the brighter side. Issues are always important to me\, but so is rocking\, dancing and just having fun. And that’s something we all can all agree on.” \nBlame It On Eve was recorded in Nashville and produced by instrumentalist/songwriter Will Kimbrough (who also produced her previous three albums). It features 12 new songs that tackle subjects as important as a woman’s right to choose and climate change\, but also leaves space for Copeland to have fun and unwind. From the autobiographical\, rocking blues boogie Tough Mother to the anthemic title track’s good-humored but serious focus on reproductive self-determination to the happy hour of Wine O’Clock\, Copeland is inspired throughout. \n

SUMMARY:An Evening with author Geoffrey Kelly (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:Thirteen Perfect Fugitives – The True Story Of The World’s Largest Art Heist\, as told by the FBI Agent who investigated the case. On March 18\, 1990\, thirteen works of art were plucked from the walls of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston by two subjects posing as police officers. Over the next eighty-one minutes\, they stole some of the world’s most valuable artwork\, including a rare Vermeer and Rembrandt’s only known seascape; a total loss estimated at over $1 billion. \nFor more than two decades\, Geoffrey Kelly\, one of the original members of the FBI’s elite Art Crime Team\, was the lead investigator into the heist. Rather than working the case as a traditional stolen property crime\, however\, he framed it as a fugitive investigation. Thirteen fugitives\, to be exact. \nIn this captivating true crime story\, Geoffrey Kelly shares his insights and theories about the case\, and recounts his journey to apprehend those thirteen perfect fugitives. Books will be available for purchase at the event. \n

SUMMARY:Carbon Leaf at The Spire Center (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:Carbon Leaf’s fifteenth studio album\, Time is the Playground is both a call to action and an embrace of the moment. Marrying nostalgic storytelling to nuanced\, folk-infused indie rock\, the Richmond\, Virginia band embroiders heartfelt melody and harmony with acoustic and electric instrumentation to create a 12-song rumination on time\, love and personal growth that’s equal parts urgent epiphany and contented exhalation. \nOriginally formed as a college cover band in 1992 and with over 3\,500 famously enthused live shows together\, Carbon Leaf helped to define the aughts indie rock that they ultimately outgrew and outlasted. They first earned national recognition with “The Boxer\,” a song that won the American Music Awards 2002 New Music Award and made Carbon Leaf the first unsigned band to perform before millions on the AMAs. \n

SUMMARY:Spire Lobby Series: Monica Rizzio (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:This series showcases local and regional musicians in a relaxed and intimate setting. The lobby is transformed into a 70-seat showcase lounge! \nWith a perspective equally influenced by her Texas roots and her Cape Cod home\, Americana singer-songwriter Monica Rizzio has emerged as one of the finest talents in the East Coast music scene. Monica released her debut album\, aptly named Washashore Cowgirl\, in 2016; where it was Monica’s solo introduction after a decade in the trio Tripping Lily\, Sunshine is Free is her expansion — after time spent on the road\, she realized it was time for her to start collaborating again and recorded the album in Nashville with producer Michael Rinne and a stacked lineup of guest musicians. Throughout the eleven tracks on Sunshine Is Free\, Monica appreciates the little things in life and looks for silver linings where necessary. It’s clear she has a keen ability to connect; her songs are often autobiographical but delivered through a fictional approach that aids in creating a universal experience for the listener — whether it’s expressed using her trademark sense of humor or with such striking honesty that the pain in her voice is tangible. \nPresented by The Antonia and Vladimir Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund.

SUMMARY:Paul Thorn at The Spire Center (Plymouth)
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to songwriting\, less is more\, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn\, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads\, hearts\, hips or the occasional funny bone\, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras\, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed. \nThorn’s new album\, Life is Just A Vapor\, contains some beauties: “Life is a vapor\, let’s live it while we can”; “tough times don’t last\, but tough people do” (from “Tough Times Don’t Last”); “any mountain up ahead is just a hill” (from “Old Melodies”). They’re words of advice\, comfort\, support\, encouragement\, often meant to uplift\, especially in times of struggle. \n
