From June 1 to August 30, 2026, the MBTA will be offering 4 Commuter Rail fare and travel promotions. These deals are an extension of our appreciation for riding with us and for your patience with World Cup-related schedule detours. We’re committed to getting you to your summer destinations and are grateful to be part of the memories you make along the way!

Travel for Free on Fridays 

Kids still ride for free, but now, on Fridays, you can too! Travel for free on the Commuter Rail for 13 Fridays this summer. If you have ever felt like you are underutilizing your Summer Fridays, now is your chance to travel around Massachusetts and experience the magic of a New England summer. 

From June to August, board the train ticket-free, even on holidays, adventure is truly just a train ride away! This promotion does not include travel on Boston Stadium trains, CapeFLYER, or special event trains. 

Purchase A Monthly Commuter Rail Pass for 50% Off

Monthly passes in June, July, and August will be 50% off, allowing you to get more adventure for less this summer. This discounted pass applies to both full and reduced fare passes for both Zones and Interzone 1-10, and ferry travel. 

Annual pass holders enrolled in Autopay will receive their discount automatically, and Perq member discounts are already applied automatically. One-time monthly passes are available for purchase at FVMS, ticket windows, and the mTicket app. 

This deal does not include travel into Zone 1A (North, South, and Back Bay Station) or non-monthly passes (single-ride tickets, 5-day flex pass, $10 weekend passes). 

Use Your Monthly Pass in All Zones on Weekends 

On weekends in June, July, and August, monthly pass holders can travel beyond their usual zone or interzone at no extra cost. For both Zone 2 and Interzone 2 pass holders, your pass becomes more flexible on weekends, allowing travel up to Zone or Interzone 10.

Bring a Friend for $1 on Weekends When You’re a Monthly Passholder

Traveling is more fun with a friend, right? If you are a monthly pass holder, you can bring a buddy along anywhere your monthly pass covers for just $1 round-trip!

To use this discount, either the monthly passholder or their friend can purchase a $1 ticket in the mTicket app. Once on board, the conductor will validate the ticket.

This promotion covers one friend per passholder and cannot be used for travel to Boston, and does not include travel on CapeFLYER, Boston Stadium, or special events trains.

There is no need to limit your stops or your fun; spend the day exploring maritime history, and hop between South Coast stations and zones at no extra cost. Board the Commuter Rail and travel to the Fall River Station for a day of both maritime and paranormal exploration

You don’t have to stay in Massachusetts; take the Commuter Rail’s Providence/Stoughton Line for a day trip or weekend stay in Providence, Rhode Island.
