GOING GREEN BY RIDING PURPLE
You Made an Eco-Conscious Choice
By swapping 2 round-trips by car for train rides each week, you can save about 2,886 lbs of CO₂ annually—that’s around 14 lbs saved per trip. In 2024, the Commuter Rail made 28.6 million trips. If each saved 14 lbs of CO₂, that’s 400 million lbs of CO₂ saved in total!
To put it in perspective, it would take 20 million trees to absorb that much CO₂ in a year—equivalent to a forest the size of 25 Central Parks. Take the train and make a difference!
DID SOMEONE SAY WEEKEND?!
You Chose the Scenic Route
You made the most of your time off by snagging 726,557 $10 weekend passes. Where did you travel to? 34,957 of you got your spooky season on and traveled to Salem.
WAYS TO GET THERE
You Left the Driving to Us
Every year, millions of drivers navigate Boston’s infamous traffic. Approximately 95,000 commuters drive solo into Boston each workday (source). With 261 workdays in 2024 (Monday through Friday), this totals 24,795,000 solo commuter trips for the year.
How many of these drivers faced traffic frustration? Studies show that 80% of drivers experience road rage at least once per month (source). Applying this to Boston, we find:
* 80% of 24,795,000 solo commuters = 19,836,000 frustrated drivers in a single month.
* Over a full year, 19,836,000 frustrated drivers × 12 months = 238,032,000 instances of road rage.
That’s the equivalent of over 238 million cries of “I’m never driving again!” shouted from cars stuck in Boston traffic.
GOOD TIMES AT GILLETTE
You Discovered the Easiest Way to the Concert and Game
You secured 29,349 special event tickets to Gillette for concerts and games. Who were you there to see? Well, 13,561 of you were there for a Pats game. 12,990 came to jam out to concerts that included headliners such as P!NK, The Rolling Stones, and Kenny Chesney (to name a few). And 2,798 of you came to watch The New England Revolution tear up the turf. But no matter who you were there to cheer for, getting you to and from Gillette was truly a pleasure.
STORYTIME!
Over 350,000 books read on board.
This was a guestimate, but we see all you bookworms on board. According to national averages, anywhere from 15-20%+ of people read regularly (source). And when they read on weekdays, it’s for about 15 minutes. We estimate that more than 20% of our ridership is listening to audiobooks or reading during their 30-minute average trip, and they have collectively finished over 350,000 books. We are sure that is an understatement. Cheers to all you non-scrollers!
