Black History Walking Tour (Plymouth)

Join us on an African-American history tour of downtown Plymouth on Saturday March 14, from 1-2 pm, originally in honor of Black History Month but postponed to March due to snow. The free-to-the-public program is presented by Pilgrim Hall Museum and the Plymouth for All Committee.

Highlighting stories of Plymouth’s African-American residents in the 18th to the 20th century, the free walking tour will be guided by Dr. Donna Curtin, Executive Director of Pilgrim Hall Museum. Tucked along the byways of downtown Plymouth are often overlooked sites of Black history, including places connected to Plymouth’s population of free and enslaved African-American residents in the colonial era, 19th-century activists, Civil War soldiers, and Plymoutheans in the 20th century.

The tour kicks off in Shirley Square in front of the historic Winslow-Warren House, where America’s very first published African-American author is believed to have lived before 1740, and concludes at the historic 1749 Court House in Town Square.
