Experience the best light show of the summer: flashing fireflies dancing through wetlands, fields, and forests. Walk the flat trails of Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary as a Mass Audubon naturalist teaches you to read the distinct flash patterns that different firefly species use to find each other. Learn why healthy, undisturbed habitat is essential to the firefly life cycle and what the restoration work at Tidmarsh means for native insect populations. These glowing insects are powerful indicators of ecosystem health and understanding them offers a window into the bigger story of biodiversity and conservation in Massachusetts.
This program is fun for all ages, but because it includes walking in the woods after dark, it is recommended for participants ages 8 and up. Registration is required.
