Part of National Moth Week, our popular, long-running “Moth Ball” is a family-friendly, insect-loving event that includes crafts, root beer floats, gummi and live caterpillars plus a moth cake, and features special moth traps (sheets with lights) that lure in the ‘creatures of the night’ for close-up examination.
Lepidopterist Tea’ Montagna – back again this year with her collection of caterpillars – will deliver a short lecture – then join in the fun of finding and identifying (with the aid of a dinoscope) the latest arrivals.
We start at 7 (for the sake of families with young children), but then stay late into the night – when the biggest and most spectacular moths often make their appearance). There’ll also be an informal moth costume contest (one prize for an adult, one for a child under 12),
There’s parking on Center Hill Road (south and north of our steep driveway) so, to be sure that anyone with mobility issues has a space, please first look for parking in the street lots before going up our driveway.
Tickets are $10 each, with a Family Ticket (good for two adults and two children) just $20. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, but also at the door the night of the event.
