The Question of Sound (Plymouth)

November 7 @ 7:30 pm

What does sound look like? What does it feel like? And what happens when an orchestra invites you to experience music in a completely different way? The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra invites audiences to explore these questions through The Question of Sound, an immersive concert journey from the mysterious and otherworldly to the triumphant. Led by Music Director and Conductor Steven Karidoyanes, the program brings together music that offers distinctly different answers to the question of how music can be heard and experienced.
“The Question of Sound is exactly that — a chance to listen differently,” says Karidoyanes. “Each piece asks us to hear the orchestra, the performers and the space around us in a new way.”

London 1795.  The undisputed superstar was Haydn, now in his sixties. His final symphony, a triumphant farewell to the city that adored him, premiered at the King’s Theatre and was an instant success. It’s everything you’d expect from a genius at the pinnacle of his career and— to no one’s surprise— is as popular today as it was centuries ago.

The other pieces surprise and delight. Ives brings featured players into the audience, immersing you in a musical conversation among instruments.

An out-of-this world concerto features the iconic instrument from the 50s sci-fi classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still. And you’ll discover a new suite that was “lost” for some time—until we found it!

Reserve your Ticket Here or on the Event Website.

Pre-Concert Talk with Steven Karidoyanes 6:30 PM | Free for ticket holders – Following the concert, audiences are invited to a Meet the Musicians & Dessert Reception in the Plymouth South High School cafeteria. Dessert and coffee are $15.
