Fall Rail Ride
Voted one of the most scenic rides on the MBTA Commuter Rail, just take the train for a day of leaf peeping, bike riding, or celebrating all the things October has to offer at Wachusett Mountain’s AppleFest on Saturday, October 25th!
$20 round-trip special ticket will take you out on the Fitchburg Line with station stops at North Station, Porter, West Concord, and Wachusett. Bring your bike and appetite because bike coaches and a café car will be on this special service train adventure.
The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is located 0.34 miles from West Concord Station, where you can enjoy the 25-mile route along the former New Haven Railroad. It winds through Lowell, Chelmsford, Westford, Carlisle, Acton, Concord, Sudbury, and Framingham. It’s a trail shared by cyclists, runners, and walkers alike, offering beautiful views of fall foliage. Riders can join one of two optional guided rides lead by MassDOT and DCR employees.
It’s also the best time of year to enjoy hot apple cider, fresh cider donuts and more during AppleFest at Wachusett Mountain. Take your favorite apple-flavored treat with you to enjoy some of the most enjoyable views of peak foliage season in Massachusetts!
Ticket Details
When: Saturday, October 25, 2025
Fare: $20 round-trip, unlimited rides throughout the weekend. Purchase through mTicket only. Tickets go on sale Monday, October 20th at 11am.
- Passengers can select a “passenger + bike” ticket type in mTicket or a “passenger only” ticket type in mTicket.
- Bike riders will get off at West Concord to bike the Bruce Freeman Trail.
- Other passengers will travel to Wachusett Station and there will be free shuttles to take people to/from Applefest. Ticket includes fare admission.
- Shuttle back to Wachusett Station and then the train will stop at West Concord to pick up bikers. Train departs West Concord with station stops at Porter and North Station.
