Take an Ice Cream Journey Along the Commuter Rail

Faneuil Hall Marketplace (0.5 mile) is a spot where you’ll have a great selection of ice cream in one spot. Get some classic Ben & Jerry’s ice cream at Boston Scoops, where a portion of all sales are donated to the National Center of Race Amity. If you’d prefer something a bit different but still delicious, Joey’s Gelateria has the finest Italian gelatos and sorbets inside Quincy Market. FoMu is perfect for anyone who’s lactose intolerant or vegan, as their signature ice creams are made with coconut milk and other plant-based ingredients.

South Station

Japan isn’t immune to a love of ice cream, and they’ve got their own unique, traditional twist. At Taiyaki NYC (0.7 mile), you can experience the unique style of taiyaki ice cream. You’ll get to eat delectable soft serve in flavors like vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and special seasonal flavors. Instead of a cone, it comes in the traditional fish-shaped taiyaki waffle filled with your choice of custard or red bean paste and decorated with a variety of toppings.

For a heaping scoop of nostalgia to go along with your ice cream, Cabot’s Ice Cream (0.1 mile) is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor you can’t miss out on. Being a Newton tradition since 1969, they’re known for their generous portions of unique, gourmet ice cream and frozen yogurt. Bring your appetite, because this is a place where there’s always room for dessert. Specialty offerings include giant frappes, the Newtonite Sundae, jumbo-sized banana boat sundaes, and more. If you’re meeting up with a big group, call ahead for a Party Sundae. Several pints of ice cream are scooped into a stainless steel bowl and everyone can take some to build their own sundae. It’s open from May through September and is a popular place for travelers to visit.
