What to Expect at the Station

Look for the Purple Station Sign

Commuter Rail Stations are marked with purple signs with the station name.

Arrive 10 Minutes Early

Arrive at your departure Station at least 10 minutes before your scheduled departure time.

Do Not Cross When Signals Are Active

Regardless of signal status, look both ways before crossing the tracks, just like you would crossing a street.

Follow Inbound and Outbound Signs

Check Station signage for direction. Outbound trains travel away from Boston. Inbound trains travel towards Boston.

Platform Types May Vary

For older adults and people with disabilities, there are 3 types of platforms at Commuter Rail stations: full high-level, mini high-level, and low-level.

Stand Behind the Yellow Line

Stand behind the yellow line as the Commuter Rail train approaches.

Activate Your Ticket Before Boarding

Activate your fare in the mTicket app before boarding the train.

Wait for the Conductor to Open the Door

The conductor will open a car door as the train approaches. Please wait for the train to come to a full stop and for the conductor to step off the train before you board.

Take Any Available Seat

You may sit anywhere you like in the car. Please be courteous and allow older adults and people with disabilities to use priority seating near the doors.

Have Your Ticket Ready for Inspection

The conductor will walk through the car to scan your ticket or collect your fare.
