Get ready for music, dance, food and crafts at the 39th annual Lowell Folk Festival, returning to the heart of downtown Lowell, Massachusetts, from July 24–26, 2026. As one of the country’s most prominent free folk gatherings, the weekend transforms the city with a vibrant lineup of musical performances across multiple outdoor stages, unique cultural craft displays, and a diverse array of global food stands hosted by local non-profits.
Skip the Traffic
Avoid the headache of driving and finding parking by taking the Commuter Rail Lowell Line, riding to Lowell Station. From there, utilize the Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA) Kennedy Center/Gallagher Terminal (.10 mi), which provides a free shuttle directly into the downtown festival area. The Commuter Rail station is located in the same facility as the bus station, making it easy to grab the free shuttle once you arrive.
Please note that the last trains from Lowell will depart at 12:45 am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Free Fridays on the Commuter Rail
Don’t forget! If you are planning to visit on Friday, July 24th, all MBTA Commuter Rail services are fare-free every Friday through August 30, 2026. You do not need a ticket or mTicket activated to ride; simply board the train.
Kids 11 & Under Ride Free
Bring your kids! Children 11 and under always ride the Commuter Rail for free, regardless of the day of the week, when accompanied by a paying adult.

Music & Dance:
The festival kicks off on Friday, July 24th at 6:15 pm at Boarding House Park with a parade of Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums. The three-day festival gives multiple opportunities to view lively performances, including Cape Verdean singer Elida Almeida, Mardi Gras Indian music from Dat Mighty 9, Delta blues by Super Chikan, and traditional Irish tunes by John Doyle & Friends. International Cuisine
Festival-goers can sample a wide variety of cuisines that reflect the incredibly diverse, multicultural tapestry of the Lowell and New England communities. You can find food from around the world at five locations throughout downtown, including Boarding House Park, the JFK Plaza Dance Pavilion, Merrimack Street, Market Street and St. Anne’s Courtyard.
