Fall River/New Bedford Line

Enjoy the Coastal Charm of Southeastern Massachusetts

Convenience with the Commuter Rail (Beginning March 24, 2025 service extends from Middleborough to 6 new stations!)

Head into Boston or get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and discover the South Coast with a little help from the Commuter Rail. The Fall River/New Bedford Line offers a convenient way to get to Boston while avoiding the highway traffic on Route 24 and the Southeast Expressway. If you live near Boston, getting to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard just got a little more car-free! Just take the Fall River/New Bedford Line to New Bedford Station and catch the free weekend shuttle from the Whale’s Tooth parking lot (near the New Bedford Station) to the New Bedford Ferry Terminal. Check ferry schedules prior to your trip.

The Fall River/New Bedford Line runs from Boston’s South Station through Middleborough and East Taunton to one of two branches: one continuing to Fall River and the other to New Bedford. Additional shuttle trains operate between East Taunton and the two branches, offering train connections between Boston and both the Fall River and New Bedford branches on most trips.

With the $10 Weekend Pass, ride the Commuter Rail as often as you’d like during weekends and holidays, and explore cultural gems along the line like the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Lizzie Borden House, Battleship Cove, Adams National Historical Park, or the JFK Library. Whether you are taking the train for work, or special events like sports games or concerts, the Fall River/New Bedford Line will get you there with ease.
